Write Cover Letters

COVER LETTER STYLE | Print & Electronic | Write | Format & Review

Vanilla Cover Letter A vanilla cover letter is the most commonly used style. In the vanilla letter you express your intent in the position, note a few qualifications, and direct your reader to your resume. Example (26K Word)

Targeted Cover Letter A targeted cover letter is formatted in the same style as the vanilla cover letter, but instead of writing out your qualifications in your second paragraph, you use Highlights of Qualifications statements to describe your credentials. Example (26K Word)

Matching Cover Letter A matching cover letter links your skills and experience to the job requirements. A matching cover letter improves the odds of getting an interview since it shows the reader that you have carefully reviewed the job requirements, done company research and thought through why you would be a good fit for the position. If a job's requirements are specific, this format is very useful. Example
