Jill Lazar '07 Return to platform statements I organized and participated in several events such as, Formal Recruitments, Faculty Halloween party, freshman move in, Dance marathons, Women’s month events, and many other events throughout my years at Johnson & Wales. As a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority at Johnson & Wales, I was able to utilize my event planning abilities and leadership skills, which assisted me in my current career at Atrion Networking where I plan corporate functions. Currently, I am a graduate student and member of ISES Rhode Island chapter and maintain a building relationship with the chapter as a new member. One of my greatest career accomplishments has been the start of my own event planning company, Everything Events. It has always been a dream of mine to start my own event company and provide the ultimate experience to my clients. I am currently planning a company launch/event showcase (March 13th, Hope Artiste Village), and had the opportunity to build relationships with the top vendors in Rhode Island including High Output, Rhode Island Rentals, and Art In Ice just to name a few. The event is going to bring Rhode Island vendors together to showcase their products and service, but not in a typical booth style. As the event planner for the event, I will be showcasing my ability to take all the pieces and put them together to create an out of the box show. By creating this showcase, I was able to receive sponsorships from many recognized businesses in Rhode Island, including Bon-fx Website Company that provided me with a free website to help promote my new business. With my experience in sponsorships, vendor relationships, creativity, and leadership, I am confident that the chair of the event committee is a position that will highlight my abilities as an event planner. I have much experience working on an executive board in my sorority days, and believe that if you can run an organization with your best friends, you can accomplish anything. All my experiences, from my first event job to now, has provided me the ability to work well in teams, lead as well as learn from others, and live my passion. I would first bring to the board my passion of Johnson & Wales and my commitment of service to the University. I don’t think I would be the same driven person that I am if it weren’t for the University. I would also bring my experiences in the industry, and ability to build relationships. Another skill that I would bring to the board is my salesmanship. I’ve been told over the past six months that I have outstanding sales tactic that are genuine and passionate, which I feel is an important skill to have in event planning industry Lastly, my ability to get things accomplished would be an important quality of mine. When I know that tasks need to be accomplished, I get to work right away. I hate to let things sit, and I have an act now type of quality. Visions and goals I have for the council in the next two years is to become a more recognized council and collaborate with more organizations to receive more recognition on campus. Another goal would be to communicate with the office of alumni relations and assist them on upcoming events and assist in call campaigns made to alumni’s. We can anticipate a higher attendance for the events if we create an experience for the alumni’s. I greatly appreciate the nomination, and look forward to an exciting year ahead of us.
