Which on-campus activities were you involved in as a student? How did those activities assist you in attaining your career goals?

As a student at JWU I was employed full-time at a local restaurant (McCormick & Schmick's) so my opportunity to participate in campus activities was limited.  I was a member of the Wine Club during my years at JWU and assisted several chef/instructors with Chef's Choice cooking classes.  I believe the main benefit I received from these campus activities was a stronger bond with my instructors who I continue to keep in touch as both mentors and friends.

Please detail your career accomplishments. How will your career path help you to be successful in the position which you are being nominated for?

I believe my current career path is my biggest attribute for the position of Charlotte Campus Representative on the JWU Alumni Council.  I currently write a weekly culinary column for the Charlotte Observer in the Wednesday section "Eye".  I have already utilized this column to promote the university through an article published in November, seen here: http://www.charlotte.com/618/story/351820.html   The use of this weekly column to promote the school and its graduates will be invaluable to the council.  I also have a strong relationship with many of the bars and restaurants in town because of my other job as a local liquor representative.  I work hand-in-hand with these establishments on a daily basis and can use these relationships to help encourage the employment of current students or alumni of JWU.

Please list what skills and/or qualities you will bring to the council to help take the council to the next level.

My experience with event planning while at Elevate Magazine enables me to have a very creative way of thinking as related to things like alumni gatherings, student activities, and other JWU related events.  My local relationships will also create opportunities to partner with local businesses during such events to maximize the impact they have on past, present, or prospective students.

What are your visions/goals for the council over the next two years?

I would like to see a more involved Charlotte alumni chapter over the next two years. From my experience as a Charlotte campus graduate and current Charlotte resident there is very little opportunity for me to stay involved with the school (if there are such opportunities, they are not being publicized well enough to make me aware of them).  The council should foster relationships with all campus' alumni to form a stronger bond between the school and the community.
