Melanie (Adams) Au, chair of the events committee grew up in San Jose, California before her family relocated to New Hampshire.  She began her hospitality career at the early age of 15 years old, and from then on, knew that hospitality was her calling.

In 1990, she received a full four year scholarship to Johnson & Wales University through the miss National Teen-Ager Program.  In 1994, Melanie graduated with her bachelors degree in hospitality management.

While attending Johnson & Wales University, Melanie was involved in activities such as the Christian Students club, Delta Phi Epsilon, and cheerleading, as well as holding a full-time position with the Marriott.

Immediately after graduation Melanie gained a position with the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida.  After moving to Ohio to be with family, Melanie performed executive management positions with companies such as: Marriott, Studio Plus, Accor, Lakeside Resort, and Wyndham International.

She is currently a hospitality management instructor at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland.  She is teaching courses such as: hospitality law, sales and marketing, cost-control, ServSafe, Introduction to hospitality, and convention and meeting planning.  Melanie is also pursuing a Masters degree in hospitality and tourism management through Columbia Southern University, as well as continuing her educational profile by being a Certified Hospitality Educator through the AH&LA.

Through her current job and her title as the current Mrs. Cleveland 2007, Melanie is involved in volunteering for organizations such as the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital, the Obesity Action Coalition, and Harvest for Hunger.

Melanie resides in North Olmsted, Ohio with her husband David and two boys, Devin and Darren.
