I am Ruchit vachhrajani, a recent graduate form Johnson & Wales University. I completed my MBA with Hospitality and Tourism Management in Fall 2007.
I was working as a senior lab assistant at our Harborside Computer Center. There I got a lot of opportunity to guide students and faculty members of different cultures.
I have also volunteered for international center of the university, welcoming the new students and help them finding accommodation.
In addition to that, being an international student I know what exactly a student feels when he/she arrives here. What kind of help and guidance they need and how they can be comfortable here.
Moreover, I have been managing the only JWU community on "orkut.com" a social networking site by google for more than a year. We have about 235 students (old, current and prospective students) in the community.
My visions for the council:
1 - To make the things more comfortable for the new students. I have to add that the situation for the new international students has defenitely improved a lot in two years. but I surely think we can do many things in order to make sure that the students have proper and clear information and they are not misguided by anyone.
2 - To help the graduate students get the most out of the graduate school. There are so many clubs here in the University. I still remember we few students alongwith Professor Timura tried to start the graduate student association but couldn't get proper response from students. In addition to that, there are many students who do not know what way they can participate in the on-campus activities.
Again, MBA is self study, so students from many cultures generally do not participate in the classroom discussion as it is new for them. They would learn more from the class if we help them be comfortable here in the university.
