Which on-campus activities were involved in as a student? How did those activities assist you in attaining your career goals?
I worked at International Relations department as a work study throughout my study at Graduate School. I was assisting Manny Tavares ( Director of International Relations ) to manage relations with international educational agencies that are located all around the world. Providing monthly, quarterly and annual reports of financial and operational transactions between Johnson & Wales University and international educational agencies and processing commission and advertisement invoices of those overseas educational agencies were some of my responsibilities. Before I went into real business life in US , having the opportunity of experiencing it within JWU helped me alot in many aspects such as: understanding the business culture of US, gaining my confidence on my English and figuring out my strenghts and weakness that is going to shape all my future career in US.
Please detail your career accomplishments. How will your career path help you be successful in the position that you are being nominated for?
Since my GPA at JWU grad school was above 3.5 ,I was given the chance of doing Co-op in a company . After an intense research I found a position at Cox Communication , after 3 months of successful Co-op experience they offered me a full time position at Cox Communications. After 6 months , I got a different job at Perot Systems which offered me a lot more opportunities .
When my current company (Perot Systems) offered me the “ Business Analyst” position they also took care of my visa and working permit paperwork. After a year employment , my managers gave me the“ Interim Deskside Engineering Team Leader” position which I have been doing more than 7 months.
Since I have faced all the challenges that an international JWU student can possibly go through to have a successful career ,I strongly believe that I can represent the interests of international population to the Council. JWU gave me lots of opportunities during my education ,so it will be a honor for me to serve JWU famil.
Please list what skills and/or qualities you will bring to the council to help take the council to the next level.
- Strong planning and problem solving skills.
- Understanding legal and educational regulations of US for international population.
- Ability to present results and conclusions to audiences for discussion, general communications, or training purposes.
What are your vision/goals for the council for the next two years?
I would like to see international population of JWU in Alumni activities more. I also would like to see successful International JWU Alumnies mentoring young international students or sharing their experiences at JWU International Students events.
