NORFOLK Message from Manager of Alumni Relations, Norfolk Dear Alumni, What a year it has been thus far-- we began the "close out" year of the Norfolk Campus with 59 food service management students, and, for the first time, probably in history, we still have the same number as we head down the stretch-- what an exciting day May 18 will be when this fantastic group of students receives the last diplomas given at the graduation which will be held at Regent University. These students have been absolutely wonderful and will be a fantastic addition to the alumni from the Norfolk Campus. Even though we had originally said that our Career Day 2005 would be out last, there was such an outpouring of support from our "hire education" partners, that on February 8 we did hold our final Career Day with 31 employers attending-- you certainly can't beat the student/employer ratio!! The students and employers alike said it was the best career day ever, with many students having offers on the spot!! There were approximately 30 alumni in attendance not counting the 14 alumni representing their companies-- what a great showing!! We want to have a very strong continuing presence in the Hampton Roads area but we need your ACTIVE support. We meet the third Monday of each month and attempt to support our alumni by meeting at their establishment. Be sure you check your email and the events calendar so you don't miss our "Maniac Monday". Walter Ellerbe is our chapter president and also our Alumni Council Representative from Norfolk-- he is working on your behalf-- give him your full support. Our final graduation will be held Thursday, May 18 at the Regent University Theater. The alumni chapter would like to have a congratulatory reception for these students in early May. If you would be interested in participating or would like to volunteer to assist in this or other events, please feel free to contact me. Even though our physical plant will be closing, I will remain with the University as Director of University Employer Development and also will be working closely with our Hampton Roads alumni chapter and also the DC chapter to insure a continuing presence of JWU in this area. Don’t forget that the University is your family and it stretches far and wide-- there are many benefits afforded to you as a JWU alum-- utilize them!! Be proud of being a graduate of the Norfolk campus, but more importantly be proud of your degree from such a fantastic University-- Become actively involved with your alumni association, wherever you may be-- JWU will always be here for you!!
Sincerely, |
