During
his senior year at Johnson & Wales University, Leni John achieved
what many students only hope for: he turned a successful internship at
a major company into a full-time position.
Leni
eagerly began his internship at Autocrat. The Rhode Island coffee roaster
is famous for producing coffee syrup, the main ingredient in
the state’s official beverage, coffee milk. Leni’s project
was to develop a program to monitor and certify all raw materials vendors.
He took on the challenge with gusto, creating a system that would, if
successful, improve the company’s external audit score. After six
months, Leni presented his plan to the senior management and president
of the company. They were so impressed with Leni’s work that they
created a job that would allow him to oversee the new systems he created.
They even let him write his own job description. Leni’s hard work
and passion for perfection paid off, and soon he was able to deliver
the good news: Autocrat’s audit soared to a “Superior” rating.
In May 2005, after three successful and invigorating years at Autocrat,
Len’s love and longing for his family took him back home to Pennsylvania.
He accepted a position at American Bank Note Holographics (ABNH) a world
leader in the production of holograms for security applications. As the
company’s sole purchasing agent, Leni negotiates pricing and contracts
and makes sure the company runs efficiently.
Leni has already taken part in several projects at ABNH, but whatever
his accomplishments, none will match the thrill of that first co-op-turned-job
experience.
