Barbara Nauman '07 M.B.A.
Senior Director of Consumer Marketing - Providence Journal Company

 


Few know the publishing industry, especially the Providence Journal, as well as Barbara Nauman.  For more than 19 years, Barbara has worked in various capacities in the Promotion Department at the Journal, serving as promotion director, promotion manager, community affairs manager and promotion specialist. She started her newspaper-marketing career as a promotion assistant and then promotion manager at the former Transcript-Telegram in Holyoke, Mass. She also did a short stint as a reporter for The Transcript newspaper in North Adams, Mass., where she completed a college internship.

Today, Barbara is the senior director of consumer marketing in command of all home-bdelivered sales, customer service for both single-copy and home delivery, as well as promotion and marketing activities for the company. She is responsible for setting and meeting the long- and short-term consumer marketing and consumer sales objectives for the newspaper as well as overseeing the strategic planning, creative development and execution of marketing campaigns and projects.  Barbara also handles the newspaper’s cross-media promotions, reciprocal trade agreements, sponsorships and work associated with the newspapers outside of advertising agencies.

Her drive and enthusiasm for learning brought her to Johnson & Wales University to obtain her M.B.A. in Global Business Leadership. She had graduated magna cum laude  with a bachelor of arts degree in English and Communications from North Adams State College. Barbara stays active with JWU by coming back to the university throughout the year to participating in various lectures at the Providence Campus.

Barbara is active in the community and volunteers her time through such organizations as Rebuilding Together; Literacy Volunteer for Kent County, Rhode Island; Advertising Club of Southeastern New England serving as a member of the board of directors; Johnson & Wales University Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School Business Advisory Board; The Public Relations Society of America and the Newspaper Association of America.
